CONCEPTUAL NOTES

• •  A book with a twofold global and local focus: planetary health and the ecological community of Caliata
  •  This book is what primatology is to the human being; that is, local indigenism to the collective alienation of these current times; a cultural reflection.
  •  Purpose: based on the premise that most of the written books obey the drive of disseminating ideas, and that although they usually have ulterior purposes (sharing, giving, indoctrinating, immortalizing, etc.), a book is par excellence a physical and symbolic artifact of communication.
  • Why not write a book on the civilization of information technology? Why not go against global forces that promote immediacy, historical amnesia and the homogenization of life?

GOAL

i) To create a visual and literary artistic piece to immortalize a historical entity

ii) To create a spearhead for subversion and resistance in various dimensions, opposition to books, Mother Nature and indigenous cultures disappearing  all together.

iii) To create a mechanism to restore the dignity of a pueblo (a human group with historical memory) and reinforce social self-esteem.

In other words, the proposed book is an ethnography, an artistic-communicational project, and is above all a metaphor for society and life. It is perhaps also “Part I” of a series of works on indigenous societies around the world.

Materials and Form

• • Combines artistic and documentary photography, artistic illustrations in various techniques (watercolors, charcoals, etc.), graphic design, fashion design, and architecture.
  • The texts are in three languages (in this case: Kichwa, Spanish and English).

Contributions

• • The book represents a collaborative process between community actors, communicators, artists, advertisers (including designers and marketers) and academics.
